Saint Paul Public Schools provides high-quality schools in every neighborhood in Saint Paul. What are Magnet and Citywide Option Elementary Schools?
Magnet/citywide option schools offer a particular program focus in addition to the districts standard curriculum. Magnet/citywide option schools draw students from across the city and are part of the district’s voluntary desegregation efforts. Transportation is usually provided to students who live more than one-mile walking distance from the school. What are Neighborhood Elementary Schools?
Based on a student’s address, a neighborhood school is assigned to each student. Students who attend neighborhood schools live within the boundaries (attendance area) for that school or are reassigned from magnet school attendance areas. Use the School Finder to find out which school is assigned to your address. Neighborhood schools offer a comprehensive elementary academic program. Please note that transportation to neighborhood schools is not citywide. Students not currently enrolled (2008-09), must schedule an intake appointment by calling the Student Placement Center.

What is a Neighborhood Reassignment School?
If a household is assigned to a magnet/citywide option school as its attendance area school, a family must apply to that school in order to have their student attend. If a family does not wish for the student to attend that school, or the student is not accepted to their magnet/citywide option school the student is reassigned to a neighborhood school.

What are Day Care Transfers?
Families that want their student to attend a neighborhood school near their day care provider in Saint Paul, rather than near their home address, can apply for a day care transfer. Day care transfers are issued for neighborhood schools only. In order to receive a day care transfer, space must be available and the transfer must comply with district and state policies. Day care transfers are valid only for the school year in which they are issued. The day care address must be within district boundaries.
